Suggest Treatment For Pericoronitis

I think I have pericoronitis. My gum started covering half of my back molar, this happens sometimes and all I do is try to brush under the gum and it usually goes away in a day but its been four days and the gum has swelled to give me pain in my top molar but no gum is covering it. I also cannot swallow without feeking like my throat is swelled or there is something blocking it. My parents wont take me to the dentist so I am wondering if there is something I can do at home? I tried pushing the gum back with my finger and using salt water

Hi...
Thanks for your query..

It is true that pericoronitis occurs if food gets lodged between wisdom tooth and the gum flap covering the wisdom tooth...
It leads to inflammation of the flap leading to pain swelling and can cause difficulty in opening the mouth too..
As the area of throat is close to wisdom tooth therefore the inflammation can also progress to throat..

The line of treatment is Antibiotics, Painkillers, Mouthwash but only this is not enough to you, you should go to dentist again and ask him to irrigate the area between gum flap and wisdom tooth with saline, betadine solution and hydrogen peroxide so that the area get disinfected and clean..

Other thing is do warm saline gargles,it will help you to reduce inflammation...

Once you get relieved of your discomfort visit the dentist again and get an IOPAR (X ray) done to find out whether wisdom tooth will erupt to proper occlusion or is impacted (means having an obstruction and wont erupt to occlusion).

If it is not impacted just get your gum flap removed known as OPERCULECTOMY and if impacted get your tooth extracted... This will be your ultimate treatment and finish your problem forever..

Hope you recover soon..

Thanks and regards..
