Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling In Knuckles After Injury
Hi! About 4 days ago I punched a wall twice pretty hard... Right away my 2 outter knuckles swelled up in this huge pointy ball.. I ve been doing the ice and ib proffen for the last few days and it s definitely getting better but still swollen and kind of bruised and when I feel where the swelling was, there s a huge lump of something hard underneath the skin. It still hurts pretty bad and Im trying to move it and exercise it but it s still very painful unless I do it in the bath tub in water. I don t have insurance so I m holding off going to doctor. Please help! Thank you!
It sounds like you may have got something called a Boxer's fracture (fracture of the bones of your 4th and 5th knuckles.
In my practice, I would send you for an xray of the hand. This would see if there is a fracture. If there is a fracture, it needs to be set. If there is no fracture, you can continue with the home treatment, but stop using the hand for exercise for at least the next two weeks.
All the best..
