Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. S. Samanta's Response
Hi! thanks for writing to us. After going through your description, I could visualize your painful lumps behind the ear and I would like to think of few possibilities as per my biopsy confirmed cases:
1. systemic viral infections like Infectious Monocytosis/EBV, Mumps, influenza etc.
2. tuberculosis
3. lymphoma/leukemia
4. Kikuchi / Kimura's disease etc...
Diagnosis is important than anything else and I think only a simple needle biopsy for 2 minutes could exclude everything!
take care and discuss it with your physician urgently!
