Suggest Treatment For Painful Ingrown Toe Nail

I have an ingrown toe nail. Every time I cut it in an attempt to fix it or when it becomes too painful the painful area smells like almonds. Although, there is no redness, swelling, or puss. There is an almost white-yellow, dry gel type of material that comes out with the clippings or that I must clean out of the painful area. I suspect it s an infection of course. Does the smell of almonds and presence of puss-like material warrant worry? Should I see a doctor?

Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.

I read your query.
Yes it is infection due to ingrowing toe nail.
You should visit your surgeon beacause,
>You require Partial avulsion of the lateral nail plate known as a wedge resection or a complete removal of the toenail (according to the condition of your nail).

For symptomatic treatment i would like to suggest you:
>Take antiboitic amoxicilin/clavulanic acid 625mg thrice a day for 7 days.
>Take acetaminophen in case of pain.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow
up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.
Wishing you good health.
