Hi Doctor, My son has a callous on his foot about the size of a dime and it s hard and changes colors from a light green to a bright red at times, I have taken him to the doctors office and they did a treatment where they freezed the area and scraped off some of the dead skin, however he says now it is red and swollen and very painful to walk on , because of my insurance now I cannot afford to continue to take him to my doctors office due my out of pocket cost and high deductible. Can you offer any other suggestions?
Hi. I guess he was treated with cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. It remains painful for couple of days after cryotherapy. Just keep the area clean. It would recover soon. After that, you can use corn caps to remove the thick skin of callous area. Also, he needs a good footwear with soft sole. Callous results from excessive, undue pressure on particular area. ask him to stop walking barefoot. Hope it helps
