What Causes Pain, Swelling And Dark Discoloration On The Thighs After Injury?

This is Maria, age 77, good health. Last night fell on cement. This morning small black and blue mark on upper thigh, toward rear at intersection with buttocks. This evening, the size is circumference of a grapefruit, color dark/severe, swelled out and hard. Only little to light pain when touching area or walking. Sitting is most uncomfortable. Went to Emergeny room (it was 7:00pm tonight....Christmas.) But so crowded I walked out. Just concerned about things like blood clots; should I ice, heat or leave alone; walk, sit or lay down; elevate legs, etc., etc. Strongly believe I have not broken any bones. Not on any blood thinners or aspirin. YYYY@YYYY
