Dear Annette, I presume that your blood pressure is well controlled. I presume that from your description the pain on the side of your neck is related to muscle strain . Have you tried using a neck support pillow ? Yes , some medications have to be monitored for causing heart problems etc. The most important part is to see that your blood pressure is under control so that later on it does not affect the heart. High blood pressure if it is not controlled can cause the heart muscle to become thick to put it simplistically , but this is a gradual process over years. Now that we are in the 21 st century medical care is very advanced and evidence based so you dont have much to worry about as your doctor has all the best in investigations and treatment to help you. Your best guide, however is your doctor as he /she has all the medical information regarding your health. Doctors are always happy to discuss their patients queries and worries Warmest regards
