Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Lower Left Abdomen

My 16 year old son has bad pain in his lower left abdominal area. He was bent over and had a herd time walking. The pain lessened after several bowl movements., tylenol, gas ex pill. He ate some pasta with butter and grated cheese earlier and is now complaining the pain is back, twisting, still on the lower left side. Also gave him a natural magnesium supplement to help with constipation which causes frequent looser bowl movements. What is going on with him?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can
This may indicate diverticulosis and treatment for it depends on how bad your symptoms are. If the pain is mild, you are able to drink liquids, and you have no signs ofcomplications, treatment may include:Medicines such as antibiotics and pain relievers. Changes in diet, starting with a clear-liquid or bland diet that is low in fiber until the pain goes away, then increasing the amount of fiber. To establish the severity of diagnosis, you should do CT scan or colonoscopy.
If the pain is severe, you are not able to drink liquids, or you have complications of diverticulitis, a hospital stay is needed. Treatment will include: Antibiotics given in a vein. .Intravenous fluids and nutrition only (no food or drink by mouth) for up to a week to allow the bowel to rest. Only In more severe cases, surgery may be required.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pain in the left lower side of the abdomen is usually related to the bowels.

Pain on the right would be associated with the risk of appendicitis.

It is possible that he may have food poisoning, it would be best to avoid any further dosing of the magnesium supplement because this would worsen his symptoms.
Though food poisoning is a possibility, abdominal pain is best diagnosed when the abdomen is examined, he may need to be seen

If it is food poisoning then treatment would consist of --(1) holding off solids till there is a 4 hour period with no symptoms
(2)fluids and electrolyte replacement
(3)probiotics help shorten the course
(4)when restarting eating use small amount of dry solid foods initially

I hope this helps
