Suggest Treatment For Pain In Left Lower Quadrant Of Abdomen

I am 51 yrs old. I have been taking prevacid for reflux and indigestion over the past yr. I ve started having pain in my left lower abd quadrant that radiiates around to the center of my back just about every evening. prevacid doesnt seem to be helping any more. sometimes the pain is milder but often the pain ispretty bad. I take quite a bit of maalox each evening and go to bed in pain. I also do have a bit of gas and belching with reflux. Different foods do not seem to effect it. I get full quick and can only eat like half the meal I once could eat. I have less appetite but if i am hungry .. a few bites and I m full. I ve never had a scope done and know I prob need one. Just been trying to treat myself. A reluctant nurse relying often on Dr google and trying to dx self. symptoms are just worse though. bowel habits are pretty much unchanged.

Hello
Pain in the left lower quadrant , radiating to the back (mild to moderate degree ) may be due to these possibilities , these include.
1 The first possibility is of left renal colic , diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of kidney. Also get in urine complete examination.
2 The 2nd possibility is of amoebic colitis . Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination as well clinical history with stool examination.
3 Carcinoma ,(age is 51 years so more prone ) diagnosis can be confirmed by colonoscopy examination ( although there is no change in the bowel habit but still we can't rule out cancer of large intestine due to referral nature of pain).
However , there are so many other causes as ovarian pain with fallopian tube ( in female patient).
As you mentioned that in the night you are taking maalox , while prevacid is also in the morning but these both provide relief as symptomatically .
Since you are also feeling fullness in stomach as well loss of appetite so I recommend you please consult a gastro-enterologist and get his opinion.

HI
Well come to HCM
This is typical symptoms of GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) If I would be your treating physician then I would treat this condition with the following medicines.
1) Tab Omeprazole 40 mg once in day at evening time for six week
2) Tab Domperidone 30 mg once in day at evening time for six week
3) Tab Chlordiazepoxide on tab twice in day for two weeks
Avoid coffee, smoking, alcohol, prior to bed, avoid spicy food also, hope this information helps. have a nice day.
