Suggest Treatment For Pain And Excessive Mucus After Undergoing Tonsillectomy
My eleven year old son had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy 8/8/11. He has excessive mucus which is interferring with his recovery. He has vomitted violently two of the three days since the surgery. He has exhibited previous intolerance to anti biotics and pain meds. He consistently says his pain level is 4 or 5 with or without a recent dose of the pain med. How can I help him?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain excess mucous in throat is a commonly seen finding after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy that occurs due to inflammation and irritation in throat after surgery and there is excess mucous production which can lead to choking as well as vomiting..
In case if he also has a history of intolerant to antibiotics and pain medications then vomiting seems to be due to it.. You should consult your treating surgeon and get evaluated and he can reduce the dose of medicine or change the drugs.. He can also be advised to take Ondensarton to reduce the vomiting.. A suction machine can be used to suck off excess mucous from his throat that will relieve him as well as reduce vomiting.. You can give him tylenol for pain as well as gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine will also relieve pain..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
