Suggest Treatment For Ovarian Cysts And Uterine Fibroids

Hello, I am currently taking Desogen in order to start IVF. In March I first started taking Desog en for 2 weeks and stopped on March 17th, so that my period could start March 24th. It did, but now it was discovered I have to have surgery to remove a cyst and fibroid. I was told to remain on the Desogen, but now, my period did not come on the 24th of this month. Was I suppose to stop it on the 17th and restart it again? I have never used birth control. YYYY@YYYY

Hello there, thanks for posting your query! I m not sure when you restarted your pills and stopped it or if you took it continuously. But let me clarify few things. Birth control pills are usually started from day 2 to day 5 of periods and are taken continuously for 21days and there will be a pill free week following, when you are expected to get your periods and you need to restart your pills on day 2 again. When you stop pills, the hormone levels come down and menses sets in but if you keep taking oral pills continuously, it keeps the hormonal levels high enough as not to allow your periods to happen. And if you have taken pills continuously that will be the reason for your delay in periods and in order to get periods you need to stop pills. By the way, don't worry, it doesn't cause any harm.
