Suggest Treatment For Ovarian Cyst

Hello, I am 46 and had a hysterectomy about 8 year ago leaving my ovaries. Now I get large cysts on them and have to get the depo injection every 3 months to keep them at bay and out of pain. However, the shot makes me extremely ill and feel sick for a week! I would like to now have my ovaries removed. What is the risk in that and will it push me into full menopause?? What would after care be like without them?? Thank you!

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Ovarian cysts at 46 years of age should be evaluated and malignancy needs to be ruled out.Ultrasound should be done to assess the nature of the cyst and if suspicion of malignancy is there, then a MRI should be done.
Removal of ovaries at this age can lead to post menopausal symptoms, and you can take hormonal replacement therapy if symptoms are severe.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated and treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
