Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

The symptoms like worries of being contaminated, restlessness on touching unclean things and then repetitive hand washing and brushing are suggestive of obsessions and the compulsive behaviours. If these are causing significant issues in day to day routine then these should be evaluated by a psychiatrist. OCD is a type of anxiety disorder and treatment in form of medicines and behaviour therapy is given.

Medicines especially SSRIs are used in high doses. Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine etc are used commonly in OCD. These drugs help to reduce unwanted, intrusive thoughts and will calm her. For control of acute symptoms medicines like low dose benzodiazepines can be used. Clonazepam or Lorazepam are options. Visit a psychiatrist for her treatment.

Behaviour therapy is other modality of treatment. This couples relaxation exercises with modification of behaviour. Please don't delay her treatment and take her to a psychiatrist.

Thanks, Take care
