Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Diarrhea

I got C.diff after knee replacement surgery. I was given an antibiotic (starts with Metro....) but I continued to be so sick that I was re-admitted to the hospital and was treated with various medications to get my enzymes back in order as well as given the antibiotic by IV. I was told in the hospital that I tested negative for C.diff and was sent home after 2 days. After a while I felt better and completed the antibiotic at home but I still was not well. Along with diarrhea from time to time, I m still nauseated. My appetite comes and goes and sometimes I m fine until I eat something and then I feel sick again. I ve lost 17 lbs since April 20th and I worry that there may be something else wrong with me. Does C.diff linger for a long time after all the doctors (primary and GI) tells a patient that they are fine now? I m not! Thank you - Myrna Fair

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of infection with C.diff after knee replacement, was readmitted and treated with metronidazole and antibiotics, sent home with negative report of C.diff but still not feeling well, feeling nausea, diarrhea, altered appetite and so on.
Lost 17 lbs and feel something is wrong.
Yes, there can be something else that is wrong as you have lost lot of weight and is to be investigated:
I would advise you the following:
CT scan of the abdomen.
Colonoscopy and biopsy.
Barium studies if required.
This will help to get a proper diagnosis as to why do you still have the problems lingering on, to look for cancer basically.
Since you have undergone knee replacement, all the blood tests must be within normal limits.
Added investigations are:
Stool tests for 3 consecutive days.
Blood culture and sensitivity.
I find this answer helpful
