Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be muscular pain and it can happen due to lack of sleep, change of pillow or bad position during sleep. Applying pain killer ointment (Diclofenac) and hot baths would help. Else he may take pain killer medicine too to relieve the pain. But if it occurs recurrently then thorough examination should be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maheshwari
