Suggest Treatment For Mouth Sores Despite Taking Antibiotics

My sister-in-law had back surgery 7 weeks ago, and has had problems with her mouth starting the week after surgery. She has little sores all over her tongue, roof of mouth, and some going down throat. Somedays it is better and she thinks it will clear up, but then she ll wake up next morning and it will be terrible again. Painful to eat and drink, and soft drinks feel like fire. She has taken some kind of liquid antibiotics from her general physician, but didn t help. Now he has prescribed pill form antibiotics she is taking, but still hasn t had improvement. She and I have both wondered if she could have a staff infection from the tube be placed down her throat for the surgery, but her general physician won t discuss it. He keeps being vague. His nurse told my sister-in-law during her last visit, that her dad had surgery at same place 6 months ago, and has had same problems with his mouth and already tried 4 rounds of antibiotics. Any advice?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, there is a possibility of staphylococcus infection that can occur after hospital stay if you are exposed to contaminated instruments or other causes..

So first of all consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Pathologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and investigations like blood test and oral swab culture should be done..

Once the confirmation is done then the treatment can be advised accordingly..

For now you can take symptomatic treatment to reduce pain and discomfort like applying Xylocaine gel or gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic mouthwash..
Do warm saline gargles and suck ice pops..
Avoid irritant and spicy foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
