Suggest Treatment For Lump On Lower Jaw After Tooth Extraction

I had an infected tooth, that had not been treated with and antibiotics prior, pulled , a week ago. That afternoon a lump showed up on my lower jaw where molar was pulled. That evening I could not open my mouth and was in severe pain. Following am, I returned to dentist he told me to double my antibiotic then do every 4 hrs rather than 6 Clyndimycin.I was also given 16 hydrocodone. i had taken almost all of them by Wed.I went to the er, where the Dr. never touched me. Did a ct of my jaw said it was just an infection, and take my antibiotics, he gave me percocets, I only took a few, the following day, went to the oral surgeon whom grabbed my job and forceably opened my mouth, as I cried in severe pain. I have not had any meds other than tylenol and advil . But have pain still where the molar was and consistent headache. My ears also ache. Do you think its all related. I am drained!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump on lower jaw while having teeth infection which occurs because of persistence of tooth infection leading to facial space infection and it could be due to impingement of nerve endings ad due to obstruction of normal flow of saliva and leads to its accumulation and swelling and pain. I would suggest you not to worry about anything. You should visit oral surgeon once and get complete examination done. You should get oral pantomograph done and start treatment after complete examination. You should take proper course of antibiotics and get dental procedure done. You can go for facial stretching exercises as well. Maintain complete oral hygiene by brushing , flossing and use of antimicrobial agent.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
