Suggest Treatment For Lump In The Ear

I m a healthy 21yo female. I just noticed a few days ago a painless, moveable, pea-sized lump right in front of my ear. The day I noticed it, my jaw was clicking while chewing on the same one side for a brief period in the morning. I have no other symptoms. When I open my jaw wide it retracts and I can t feel it anymore. How long should I wait before getting it checked out by my doctor if it doesn t go away?

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Most common lumps on the head and neck region are lymph node swellings. Although it requires a physical examination of the swelling to opine on it, from the history I would consider it initially to be a lymph node swelling and examine all the related regions around it including the oral cavity and an ENT check up. The scalp and hair also could be the culprit due to dandruff infestation sometimes. After ruling out all these aspects, if the lump persists or increases in size even after a course of anti inflammatory and a broad spectrum antibiotic, definitely I would advise you for a routine blood check up like a CBC, ESR, and a FNAC (Fine needle aspiration cytology) to have a proper histological diagnosis and appropriate management.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
