Suggest Treatment For Lowering Cholesterol

I'm 52 yrs old, 5'10" 175 lbs in good health with a regular exercise routine. Blood pressure is generally 140/90 with taking 50mg of HCTZ. My cholestrol is 274. Trig 98, HDL 82, LDL 173, Risk Factor 3.36. Any cause for concern? Suggestions for lowering the cholestrol would be appreciated. (Note: my dad had high BP and cholestrol. He died of a massive coronary at 68 yrs old). Thank you very much.

Hello, thanks for using HCM.I have gone through your question. In your case the level of Serum cholesterol 274 and LDL 178 are certainly very high.As per recommended guidelines you will need medicines along with life style modification. But at the same time your HDL 82 is indeed very favourable and protective.I suggest you to start Tab.Rosuvastatin 10 mg everyday at bed time.please reassess your lipid profile after 4 weeks along with Liver enzyme to look for improvement in cholesterol and any side effect on liver.Depending on reports you may reduce the dose or continue the same dose for rest of your life with 6 monthly check up.Also maintain your BP less than 140/90.
My best wishes.

hello,
I have gone through your query. Thanks for using HCM.
your cholesterol 274 and LDL 173 is high. You should take statin group of medicine to lower this high cholesterol.I suggest you to take Rozuvastatin 10 mg at bed time under supervision of your treating doctor.Your HDL which is protective is very good.you should aim cholesterol below 150 amd LDL below 100.
In view your family history you should continue medicine life long along with regular moniroting.
My best wishes
