Suggest Treatment For Low Iron Levels Due To Post Partum Bleeding

Hello, i am 23 years of age and i gave birth 11 weeks ago. I had a very bad birth as my daughter went into distress and had to be forceps and she had shoulder dystocia. She only weight 3.2kg which the doctor said was unusual. Due to this I lost a lot of blood during the delivery due to the deep cut and received a lot of stitches. My iron levels have been very low since this and i am taking iron tablets. When i was dicharged from hospital they were 8.9 and I got a blood test one month ago and they were 5.9. I have been taking the tablets and got a repeat test on tuesday. I receivedthe result yesterday and my iron levels are now 3.2 and my doctor said I need to see a specialist and get a transfusion but he said he would send a letter and i dont know how long i will be waiting. I am just inquiring if this is serious as he never told me if it was or how long i will be waiting. Can you give me some advice?

Hi, thanjs for writing..
It is unusual to have such drastic fall in Hb postpartum.. You need to get evaluated.. If hb is 3.2 you have to get a blood transfusion at the earliest and get a series of investigation to know the cause of anemia.. It is not so good to keep waiting with such low Hb.. A hematologist advice should be seeked.. Hope i have answered your query.. Good day..
