Suggest Treatment For Low Blood Pressure And Tension Headache

Hi. My 20 year old daughter has had a headache in both her temples for several months. She has actually gotten dizzy & fell several times due to this & eyes have gone black. It is effecting her every day life. No pain med has helped. She has seen a neurologist but says it is tension headache due to anxiety. She is on Lexapro & has not been any more anxious than usual. She does have low bp & wondering if this could be causing all of this? She had a head CT & was clear. I am not sure what else to try.

Hello!

I read your question and understand your concern.

I would like to explain that a low blood pressure or orthostatic hypotension can mimic a similar clinical scenario, besides tension type headache.

Has her headache improved on Lexapro? It would relieve tension type headache or a possible conversion disorder (the fainting episodes).

The episodes of fainting are much probable to be related to the low blood pressure.

I recommend you to consult with the GP and closely monitor her blood pressure during sitting and standing up position.
If any difference of blood pressure more than 20mm Hg during position changing is observed, a Head Up tilt test would be necessary to exclude a possible orthostatic hypotension.

A routine blood test are also useful to exclude a chronic anemia or inflammation.

I advise to take plenty of water and juices.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
