Suggest Treatment For Loss Of Pigmentation In Labia & Armpit

Hi I am 34 and have no health problems other than hypothroidism that I take Synthroid for. I have noticed in the past 2 years, I have started having loss of pigmentation of my labia and also under my armpits. It seems to be getting worse. Even the hair has lost its color as well, it is white in these areas. Is there some treatment for this?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

You seem to have a condition known as Vitiligo along with Poliosis(white hair).
Vitiligo is characterized by autoimmune destruction of melanocytes, which are pigment producing cells present in skin and hair follicles; the destruction resulting in depigmented patches.
Treatment is certainly available and it is guided by the extent of disease and presence or absence of poliosis.
Limited involvement is usually treated with topical steroids and topical immunomodulatory drugs like tacrolimus.
Systemic treatment with Oral steroids, psoralens combined with UVA phototherapy Or UV B phototherapy are other options.
Poliosis is a bad prognostic sign in terms of spontaneous or induced repigmentation.
In such cases surgical modalities like punch grafting, autologus melanocytes culture are an option wherein patients own melanocytes are transplanted to these depigmented areas.
I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your region for an assessment of your skin condition and appropriate treatment.

Regards
