General & Family Physician 's  Response
This is most likely viral gastroenteritis which is a condition that usually resolves on its own with the body's own defence mechanisms. He needs to be given plenty of fluids. The WHO ORS (oral rehydration salts) preparation dissolved in 1 litre boiled and cooled water would help him to recover all the lost electrolytes and fluid from the body. Antibiotics are not absolutely essential but can be given as a precaution for secondary bacterial infection. He should be alright in one or two days time. Watch out for signs of dehydration in him such as dry moth, sunken eyes, few tears while crying, less activity in child. In such situations they may need giving IV fluids in the hospital. Otherwise no need to worry.
