Hello welcome to HCM.I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Kidney failure once occured, can not be recovered unfortunately. But the important and good thing is the other kidney if functioning well then a person can live at least 40 to 50 years more with single kidney.
My advice to you is-

1.DO Functional studies for the other kidney now and see how is the other kidney functioning.your nephrologist will guide you further regarding the same,he will guide you in this regard.

2.DO his kidney profile yearly ,avoid any sort of pain killers which might harm the remaining kidney.

3.Otherwise he can live normal life ,Dont worry.
THANK YOU .HAVE A NICE DAY.
