Suggest Treatment For Jaw Pain After Tooth Removal

Hi, I had my wisdom teeth removed four weeks ago tomorrow, and this Monday I woke up with a tender spot on the back of my right jaw so I took ibuprofen and rinsed with a salt water solution. After I rinsed and took a strong dose of ibuprofen I went to class and got out around 11:00 that Monday morning. In the short amount of time from 8:30AM to 11:00AM my jaw had swollen to the size of a shooting marble but the knot was mid-way up my jawline. I rushed to my dentist between my break in class and he prescribed me 500mg Amoxicillin three times a day for five days and told me to keep rinsing with salt water. The lump has subsided nearly all the way, but Tuesday I scheduled an appointment to see my oral surgeon about the issue. Should I follow through with the oral surgeon since my issue is nearly gone?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain yes, you need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated as swelling in cheek and lymph nodes post wisdom tooth extraction can be due to any left over root pieces of wisdom tooth that can flare up causing infection and inflammation with pain..

Other causes can be infection in any other tooth or salivary gland..

So a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly...

Hope this helps..

Regards.
