Suggest Treatment For Itchy Small Bumps On The Tongue

Over the last 6 months I have been having a constant irritation on my tongue. It feels some what like I have scalded it. In the very edge I get small bumps that are not as much painful as uncomfortable. It doesn t go away. My doctor just sort of blows it off but it s worrying me a lot. Have you ever heard of this?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itchy small bumps on the tongue which are enlarged papillae of tongue . There can be many reasons for enlarged papillae like stress , trauma due to food or other reason, throat infection or post nasal drip. Need not to worry. Most of the times they go away by their own without any treatment.

I would suggest you to :-

- To suck on ice cube or drink cold liquid to help in reducing inflammation.

- Avoid hot and spicy food.

- Gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day.

- Take vitamin B12 supplement.

- Maintain oral hygiene.

If condition doesn't get better in a week then consult oral pathologist for proper examination and rule out the cause like lie bump , squamous papilloma or allergy. Doctor may prescribe steroid medicine , anti inflammatory drug or antibiotics or anesthetic mouth wash.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
