Suggest Treatment For Itchy Ears

Hi. I have had an issue with my ears itching terribly for quite some time. They itch, then they are very dry and crusty, then they may be very moist and almost feels as if there is liquid running around in the ear. The main issue is the itching. At night it keeps me awake. It seems to be worse at night. I have tried Fluocinolone Acetonide .01% Oil but it doesn t seem to help that much. Sometime I have used Hydrocortisone cream or Cetaphil Lotion. Anything to try to stop the itching. Vicious Cycle!! I know I need to check it out but wasn t sure if I should go to an ENT or a Dermatologist? Thanks for your suggestions

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy ears which is because of ear infection which sometimes remain persistent, it could be due to wax buildup and recurrent otitis media. You can use ciplox or gatiflox ear drops for local application. You should take syrup gelusil-plus every 4-6 hours for better relief of your symptoms. You should visit ENT specialist and go for otoscopic examination and start treatment after proper prescription. Put some anti-fungal drops for some time. Keep ears dry and clean. You should go for culture and sensitivity test of ear discharge to know about specific bacteria. Start with antibiotic course of that particular bacteria

Hope your concern has been resolved.
