Hello Dr. Samuel, my name is Brynjar Gunnarsson and im from iceland, my grandfather has been in the hospital now for 11 days and 5days without having any bowel movements, we took him there in the first place becouse of bronchitis and he was put on oxygen and steroids didnt answer to the steroids and is off them now. hes very weak and cold sweat but no heat in him. hes 76 years old, 180cm and 98kg. they have already put up a nasogastric tube to relive stomach pain and they had him drink some kind of shadow material and then they also put it down the nasogastric tube and waited but it didnt make it all they way down the intestens, they have given him 2 magnesium tablets and nothing else, and he hasnt had anything to eat in 48hours. he had 2l of oxygen but it was bumped up to 4l today becouse of shortbreath. he has only had something to drink that i brought to him and that was icelandic water with vitamins and fibers. He has had a bypass and an anurism, so he wont stand a change if they cut him open.. me and my mother who is a nurse think he wont make it trough another day and i was hoping you or some specialist you know could have some solution or non-surgery procedure we could do, i read about enema and stent, is that something that could help?, or even just going to the pharmacy and buy sorbitol and laxoberal drops and give him that to force the blockage in the intestines out?, the doctors here are not the best in the world, and there is so little that they are trying to do to help him. all answers would be very helpful and i apoligize for my poor english.
with regards,
Brynjar Gunnarsson
