Suggest Treatment For Insomnia

I ve tried everything for sleep. Ambein, restoril, lunesta. Nothing is helping. The restoril is the only medicine that allows me to get the little sleep I m getting with it. I ve had my blood work done, it looks good. Don t know what to do... I have been dealing with it for almost 3 months.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Two types of insomnia are there.

Primary: There is exclusive sleep problems without any physical or psychological problem. In this benzodiazepiene medicines useful like clonazepam or lorazepam.

Secondary: Sleep disturbance is due to some underlying physical or psychological problem. In this case main treatment is to treat underlying problem. In this case also benzo would help.

In any type of insomnia some sleep measures called sleep hygiene is useful You can find in this link: http://sleepfoundation.org/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene.

For detail evaluation you need to consult psychiatrist.
