Suggest Treatment For Insect Bite

I was bitten by something, I think. Large swollen area on neck and it's very itchy. It started small and has become larger. I have not itch it and have put cortisone 1%. No relief. I'm afraid it might have been a spider. My hand also swelled up. Right hand. And right side of neck.
Is there a test I can take to find out what it is?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have been bitten by a relatively poisonous organism and swelling is due to toxic sting left under the skin by the stinger of the organism leading to allergic reaction causing inflammation and swelling..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise you allergic tests to rule out the exact cause of it and treat you accordingly..
You can be given oral anti allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra etc..
A steroid shot can be given to reduce swelling faster..
You can also do cool compresses over the swelling..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have insect bite . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergy reaction from sting of insect like anaphylaxis or infection in wound .

I would suggest you to take over the counter antihistamine like benadryl twice a day along with anti inflammatory like diclofenac for pain . If condition doesn't get better then consult general practitioner for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics or give adrenaline short .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
