Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

Dear Doctor,
I am Piyush weight - 90, height - 175 cms,age -32 yrs.
I have been suffering from hypothoyroidism since the last 12 years. I have been taking 1 tablet of electroxin 100 mg daily morning as i was prescribed by my doctor. I was told that this need to continue throughout my life
All these years there has been no issue and even today I do not have any major issues.
I had a blood test done a week back and found my TSH level showing 8.9 ml where as the normal range was showing 0.4 to 4.2ml.
Could you please suggest if there is any change in the dosage I should be looking for or can this be ignored.

Regards
Piyush

Hello dear user:
Thank you for asking on HCM!
The most common treatment for hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid is Levothyroxine (Eltroxin ).The right dose is depends on the TSH evel.

What is most important in treating hypothyroidism is to find the right dose.?

It is very important that your thyroid hormone and TSH levels to checked periodically.
The initial dose of thyroid hormon is carefully selected based on information such as :
•     a person’s weight
•      age,
•     other medical conditions.
Can you tell me please how you take your tablet?
Its my duty to say:
The best time to take thyroid hormone is probably first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This is because food in the stomach can affect the absorption of thyroid hormone.
May I know please are you taking others medicine?
Are you taking: birth control pills, estrogen, testosterone, some anti-seizure medications (for example Dilantin and Tegretol), and some medications for depression.
Please I don’t know if you are female or men , I know that you are 32 years old.(taking birth control pills, estrogen, testosterone)
The hight TSH level are during hight level of cholesterol.

I would like to know please :During 12 year your Hormon thyroid replacement was 100mg ?
Did you chanche your dose those days?
Normally, 6 weeks after starting treatment you should check the TSH level, if it is within the normal ranges than the dose is correct, otherwise it should be corrected.

My advise is to consult an endocrinologist and to repeat the thyroid tests
•     TSH,free T3 ,free T4 and an thyroid ultrasound to see the actual thyroid fuction and structure.
•     Cholesterol.TRG, HDL.LDL
Your docter must to know about yout time taking tablet, if you are taking other medicine?
In my opinion you must to increase the dose of Electroxin 100mg-150mg .
Before that I want to know the last thyroid test .

If you have any further queries, please feel free to ask. I would be happy to help.
Thank you for using HCM for your health problems.
Kind Regards
Dr,Klodiana Poshi
