Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

I need to eat healthily due to hypothyroidism and a very bad diet. Should I change gradually or everything at once? Also should I start exercising or wait until I'm eating more? I'm 37 years old, 48 kilos and have had hypothyroid problems and eating disorders for 12 years.

Hi,

The treatment of hypothyroidism will depend on the cause and the severity of hormone deficiency. If it is Hashimoto thyroiditis (autoimmune disease) you need to take Levothyroxine because the diet is not effective. If iodine deficiency is the cause, you need to increase the iodine intake by diet.

The most common cause is hashimoto thyroiditis, so you need to start Levothyroxine and the symptoms will improve within 4 to 6 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best wishes,
Dr. Mirjeta
