Suggest Treatment For Huge Hip Boils

My husband is a paraplegic. He had pressure sores on each hip leaving huge indented scars. He always sleeps on right side now with no problems. He switched and slept on his left side and woke up with large fluid filled blisters inside the 5 year old scar. Why?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi i understand your concerns, pressure sores are common in paraplegic patients, the main reason being decreased blood flow to the region. These pressure sore more easily occur when the patient sleeps on a hard surface, in your case may be the left side of your bed dosent have sufficient bedding causing more pressure while lying on that side. Please do use soft comfortable clothing for the patient. Avoid clothing that may require to put knots to fasten them. sometime the knots keepshifting and may increase the pressure while lying on that side.

its best to keep the patient on an alpha bed, which puts in continuous air and wave motion in the bedding that helps prevent pressure sores.

please consult your treating physician, to get the sores treated as early as possible. He usually will prescribe a short course of antibiotics and a cream for topical application.

only after the wound completely heals pressure can be reapplied on the region.

wish you a speedy recovery.
