Suggest Treatment For Hives

I am 39 years old. Healthy. Developed uncontrollable hives for the past four weeks. I have been to my PCP twice and a dermatologist. I have taken an extensive high dose of oral prednisone that relieved hives for a few days but now they are back with a vengeance. I have used Benadryl, Pepcid, Allegra, Claritin, doxepin and hydroxyz, along with prescription creams. Nothing is working. The hives are now all over my body and I am starting to bruise in several areas of my body. I don t know what to do. My mom had hoshimotos and thyroid cancer. That is all for family health related issues.

Hello,

I can understand your concern treatment for hives. Hives or Urticaria is a frequent condition caused by bursting of allergy producing cells. These cells are part of white blood cells which are known as "mast cells". A chemical is released due to certain aggravating factors present in the environment. As the chemical inside them is released it produces a rash of hives.

There can be multiple factors producing this condition which are included in day to day life and some times it is really difficult to find one exact cause of the hives in certain persons. over all you should understand that it is part of normal immunity in exaggerated form.

The long term effective treatment for this is by oral anti histamine like loratadine or cetrizine or levocetrizine under medical advise.

Take care.
