Suggest Treatment For High Fever

my granddaugher has had a high fever since Monday. It started out with 102, 103, down to 101 up to 103, 104.9, 102, 103, down again, yesterday 104 down to 100, 101 and now 101 again. Tuesday they said it was viral, Friday they started her on an antibiactic and its been 3 days medicine and still a fever. I am very concerned that maybe she needs a blood test, BTW they did a urine test on Friday, some discharge but nothing to be concerned about. I want to take her to the hospital to have them run more test.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern for your granddaughter. Fever of more than 100 is considered as high-grade fever.

When she is administered with antibiotics and still if it is not responding to it means that it needs to be categorized as 'pyrexia of unknown origin.'

It needs to be evaluated in the following way:
1. Chest x-ray
2. Urine routine examination
3. Complete blood count with peripheral smear
4. WIDAL test
5. RA factor
6. Blood for malarial parasites
7. Dengue antigen-antibody test

Kindly consult pediatrician with the above mentioned test reports so that it can be appropriately diagnosed and treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S
