Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Low Backaches

I have had fever peaking at 102. and chills. Also pain in urethra, vagina, anus, headache, low backache. Went to nurse practitioner who said I have a very, very bad UTI. Prescribed Cipro which I have been taking since Thursday evening. Still having quite a bit of pain and discomfort. Feeling certain this may be a kidney infection. Have an appointment with a urologist Monday. Shouldn t the antibiotic be helping the pain and discomfort by now? It has taken care of the fever and chills but am still feeling miserable. Do you think something else may be at play?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Based upon your symptoms yes, your nurse practitioner is right you might be suffering from urinary tract infection. Ciprofloxacin is drug of choice for that but if you were my patient I will suggest you to have a urine culture done to know what antibiotic is sensitive for the organism causing UTI. You can take syrup.citralka and plenty of water along with the antibiotic you are taking till you get the culture report.
Hope this answers your query.

Regards,
Dr.Alekhya.
