Suggest Treatment For High Fever And Ear Infection

My grandson is 17 months old. He is having high fevers of 101 up to 103 for the past 3 days. He has been touching his ears constantly which we assume might be ear infection. The ped confirmed that but also mentioned that he has catsaki virus. Today, she call my daughter to bring the baby back so she can draw his blood. I am worry and wonder why the doctor wants to draw blood. Could it be something worst?
