Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM! I understand your concern.

There are a variety of home remedies to resolve hiccups. From holding your breath to drinking a glass of water quickly. I would also advise to eat in small portions.

Medication is needed if the hiccups becomes chronic and persistent (if it lasts more than 3 hours), or if it affects sleeping patterns, interferes with eating, or causes reflux of food or vomiting.

I would recommend baclofen (a muscular relaxant) or metoclopramide ( an antiemetic drug)for this purpose.
Other effective drugs in hiccups are chlorpromazine (antipsychotic) and antipileptic drugs.

Another option is to surgically implant a battery-operated device to deliver mild electrical stimulation to your vagus nerve. This procedure is most commonly used to treat epilepsy, but it has also helped control persistent hiccups.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
