If right dose is taken in right time than herpes can be cured. Acyclovir or gancyclovir should be taken 800 mg five times a day for seven days can cure the illness. If the lesion is not responding properly than you can change to other antiviral drugs that can respond to the drugs. Please use appropriate pain killer like gabapentin. Vitamin B complex is also necessary. Herpes is curable so you should not worry appropriate treatment will be sufficient. You can do protected intercourse.
