Suggest Treatment For Headache

I was having gas and headache, then recently it developed into such a bad headache where I feel the back of my head is being eaten by something or pulled together. The gas and headache I have been having since 2011. I have had endoscopies that say I have no serious ulcer, just mild duodenitis. I also suffered sinus headaches in the past after I left a broken teeth on. I have been to doctors and keep getting medications that do little. Recently, I felt I had candida since I was having crawling feeling moving up or down my body, more afraid its gradually becoming meningitis. I also have pains in between my shoulder blades and some times a seemingly isolated mild sweet pain at one of my joints. So I decided to take anti fungal drugs nystatin and fluconazole. My intention was treat stomach candida, but I only get relief when I take the drug dosage for meningitis (400mg fluconazole per day). Not sure what to do next, should I complete the 30 days treatment for meningitis. I am happy that the drug is responding to my problems, am not just sure if I should keep taking it for that long.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Your symptoms don't seem to be related to meningitis. They are more suggestive of tension type headache, which is a common benign type of headache related to psychological and physical stress.

Even though the therapy you are taking seems to be working, I would not recommend continuing it more than 2 weeks.

Fluconasole can cause several side effects in your body, mainly in the liver, and I would not recommend taking it without a verified diagnosis and medical prescription.

You should know that it is very difficult for bacteria and fungal infections to pass the blood brain barrier. That is why it is very rare to develop fungal or bacterial meningitis after a GI infection.

Further tests would be needed (a spinal tap and brain MRI) to diagnose this disorder if suspicions were raised during physical examination.

I recommend discussing with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
