Suggest Treatment For Headache & Throat Pain

Hello Doc,Around 10 days back I had severe headache and pain in my throat. When the pain persisted, I showed myself to an ENT specialist. She advised me to get a thyroid test and ultrasound of the neck. The test results were as follows:T3: 5.59* nmol/I T4: 320* nmol/L TSH: 0.010* ulU/mL Findings of neck ultrasound: Two ill defined nodules seen in the right lobe, largest measuring 0.8 x 0.7 cms. Multiple ill defined nodules are seen in the left lobe. Then I was asked to show myself to an endocrinologist. He asked me to get a Thyroid Uptake Scan, findings of which are as follows: Both lobes of the thyroid gland are faintly visualized and shows severely reduced tracer uptake (L R). Salivary glands are normally visualized. Total thyroidal uptake: 0.1% Scan findings of severely reduced trapping function in both lobes of thyroid gland with very low serum TSH is suggestive of thyroditis. The following steroids are advised by the doctor to be taken: TAB Wysolone - 20mg for 1st week, 10mg for 2nd week, 5mg in 3rd week, 2.5mg in 4th week, 2.5mg on alternative days in 5th week. TAB Pantocid - 40mg for 5 weeks I would like to get a second opinion before starting taking this medication. I am continuing to have headache feeling feverish. I am also experiencing nausea and discomfort since yesterday. Appreciate your suggestions and advice. Thanks & Regards, Shibika

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Majority of cases throat pain are due to viral infection, but in some cases it is related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis) or reflux esophagitis.

We differentiate the cause through routine blood counts with throat examination, pharyngoscopy to rule out non infective causes.

Therefore it is advisable to see the doctor. Preferably you must see ENT specialist for complete medical history including history of sensitivity to antibiotics and thoroughly clinical examination.

You might require antibiotics (to prevent superinfection if cause is viral) with analgesics, antiinflammatories, decongestants and nebulization with steam inhalation.

Tension headache is a primary or simple headache caused by some precipitating or triggering factor which is relieved by OTC analgesics
(ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac) and eliminating this triggering factor.

For Tension headache, which may last for few hours to some days depending on triggering or precipitating factor like heavy sunlight exposure, sleep deprivation, wrong or uncomfortable posture, eye strains, stress, long working hours in one position etc.

Take OTC analgesic which suits you and take bed rest or sleep with muscle relaxant and antacid if gas trouble.Try to avoid contact with triggering factor.

Rest of the medicines are good you can take those but only after your doctor's consultation.

Start your hypothyroid medication at the earliest.

Regards,
