Suggest Treatment For Head Injury

my daughter was riding her bike this morning, wearing a helmet. a car door opened and she had no time to stop before she bumped right into the door. she fell sideways. she is now complaining of pain by her temples. she said she thinks it"s because she jolted forward and then fell to the side. her jaw hurts as well. this happened 8 hours ago. she went to school. she ate and only now is complaining slightly. How long do i have to wait after a head injury to not be concerned/worried that it's something serious?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. To calm your worries, we have to rule out dangerous head injury. Few signs which point towards it are

; vomiting
; bleed through nose/ear/throat
; loss of consciousness for more than 5 minutes or decreasing consciousness
; fits
; onset of new focal deficit
; persistent headache not responding to painkillers

If any of above signs, you must consult ER as soon as possible. The doctor will get CT head done to rule out bleed or fracture. Fracture is usually managed conservatively but bleed may or may not require surgery depending upon patient's condition or bleed size.

However if no above signs and her only complaint is pain at injury site or jaw, then she can be observed at home. She is conscious, oriented and accepting feed, which is a good sign. For relief in pain, you can follow few tips

; apply icepacks at injury site
; apply painkiller ointment at injury site like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
; You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: Keep your head at higher level than chest
; Avoid pressure at injury site
; If still in doubt, you should consult doctor.

Hope it will help her. Thanks.

Take care.
