Suggest Treatment For Head Injury In A 5 Years Old Child

Hi. My 5 year old boy bumped his head about 5-6 days ago and there didn't seem to be any trouble at the time. A few days later, I noticed a tall, hard crusty scab on his head and I figured that must have been from his head bump a few days earlier. Anyhow, after a couple of days watching it, I noticed this morning that it has gotten strangely tall rather than flat, like an ant hill, an hard and crusty and yucky. I've never seen a scab like this. I got him in the shower and soaked it real good for several minutes while rubbing it and eventually it wore down to a more normal size scab. I followed up by putting neosporin cream on it but I didn't think a bandage would stay on since it was a little spot under his hair. I assume that this is normal and ok for a scab and a seemingly harmless head bump. Am I right? There was no dizziness, nausea, vominting or loss of consciousness when he bumped his head. Also, in an unrelated incident, he had a little potty accident at school yesterday and the teacher put on his replacement jeans I provided as a backup. I had forgotten to put an extra set of underwear in there with them and the jeans were rather slim. This morning, he said that his "wiener" had started itching sometime in the early morning and I noticed a strange bulbous protrusion from the side of it. My guess is that it was irritated from him going without underwear in the skinny pants for several hours yesterday. Does this sound likely? I put some hydrocortazone on it. Thank you for your advise.

hi,

thanks for your questions.

scabs in the hair can build up and look a mess. you did the right thing and hopefully now the wound will heal uneven fully.

redness pain and swelling at the end of the penis in children is common and often subsides without any treatment. if the conition worsens you may want to consult your physician.

best wishes
