Suggest Treatment For Hard And Dry Skin

Hi, my palms and around my fingers are dry, hardened and peels here and there. My dermatologist gave me salicylic acid 0.5 to remove hardening. Parts came off but around the fingers are still hard and "peely" - sort of disobeying the acid. Occasional itch. Please, help if you can. Thanks. Naa from Ghana, West Africa

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

You seem to have palmoplanter keratoderma. It may be hereditary. There are many types of PPK. The skin of palms and soles may become dry, thick and fissured. Moisturising cream containing urea and parraffin liq may be applied at night with steroid cream in morning. Orally acitretin 10 mg cap may be taken for long time under supervision of dermatologist. Avoid soap bath, you may use dettol in water. And for itching, take antihistaminics like levocetirizine .After long term treatment, you may be improved. I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
