Suggest Treatment For Fracture On Finger

Hello, I slammed my finger in a door a week ago. went to doctor and he told me to keep a splint on for 4 weeks because there was a small fracture (right under the nail) but I ve already taken it off because the pain has subsided and I can use it for daily things. the only thing is, the nail has a couple of spots that look purple or almost black, and I ve noticed there s a bad smell coming from it, no matter how often I wash the wound, even with peroxide. should I be concerned? It s only been a week so should I just give it time?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
The splint has to be kept for 4 weeks irrespective of whether the fracture is small or big because we should give sufficient time not only to join the broken bones, but also remodel the healed bone.
Pain will subside once the fracture starts healing. But splint is required to keep the bone in place and it supports as the broken part is a weak zone and carries risk of breaking again due to minimal trauma.
Hence it is advisable to keep the splint for 4 weeks as suggested by your doctor.
