Suggest Treatment For Food Poisoning, Vomiting, Chills And Stomach Pain

I believe my son has food poisoning. He ate 3-day old leftover chicken and pasta at 7:30PM and started vomiting at 11PM. It is now 4AM and he still hasn t stopped. He has chills and stomach pains. He is drinking 16oz of water each time after he vomits to keep hydrated, only to bring the water up within 35-45 mins. Is there anything I can give him to calm down his stomach? We have tried, flat coca cola and ginger ale. Thank you. Sorry, didn t know you charge for this. I ll ask my family physician. He doesn t charge for a consult. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Food poisoning will resolve depending upon its severity. Generally it resolves in the 4 to 8 hours with supportive care. Food poisoning produce vomiting that lead to dehydration. Better to meet the physician and assess the sign of dehydration.

As a treating physician, I will give following advises:

- Antibiotics: Ciprofloxacin along with probiotics
- Take over the counter oral rehydration solution to prevent the dehydration.
- Stay calm. Avoid solid foods. You can take boiled rice with added salt and lemon.

This will help you replenish the fluids and electrolytes. Tablet Domperidone and tablet Dicyclomine, take more chicken breast soups, yogurt, curd rice, banana, applesauce and toast.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
