Suggest Treatment For Flu,ear Infection And Diarrhea

Hello I came down with a flu about 10 days ago, it started with fever and body ache, however since I started drinking alot of juice it went away and I was left only with caughs and sore throat...then I got ear infection and went to emergency. I was prescribed Amoxiciline 500 three times a day. This is 5 dyas ago, since then my ear has discharged alot of infection, but since I did not feel much beter went to a walking clinic today. The doctor told me my ear is still heavily infected and he prescribed me Biaxin XL 500 mg, two tablet per day with meal. I took the first one this evening, and I got a really bad dieareh..not my concern is that I might be pregnant and I have read that this type of antibiotic could cause damages to the Fetus? should I contintue this or go to emergency again?

Hello, and I hope I can hope I can answer your question.

The type of antibiotics you took are not completely unsafe during pregnancy, and especially if you are not yet pregnant there is no baby developing until at least 6 weeks of pregnancy.

So you do not have to worry about the antibiotics you took. I would follow your doctors recommendation, but you should let him/her know about your diarrhea, because that can be a side effect of that type of antibiotic.

I hope this advice was helpful and that you feel better.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
