Suggest Treatment For Fits

Hi, my 10 year old son was playing eyes rolling and had his eyeballs rolled upwards and hold there. This has caused him to have a fits and he fell backwards with head injury. Dr said this is fits and did a ct scan. The scan is normal. A probe test would be done next month. I am very concerned about his conditions and need advise on what to do now and next? Any natural supplement, acupuncture, etc to prevent it from happening again? As this is the first time, we are very worried that he would fall on his head if he ever has another attack. Recently he has developed eczema and would scratch in his sleep. Also his urine has always got a very strong ammonia smell. Pls advise. Thanks.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your child's symptoms.

A single episode of seizure does not qualify to be called as epilepsy and there is no need to start anti-epileptic medications. This is because 50% of children with a single episode of seizure would not develop another seizure ever in their lives.

However, a detailed evaluation is needed to find out the cause. This includes MRI brain epilepsy protocol and EEG (electroencephalography). If any abnormality is found on any of these two investigations, it should be treated, and anti-epileptic medications should be started.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
