Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I have noted the history of Enterocutaneous fistula after total colectomy in 2010 with all the details that you have noted so well. As per the history of such great complications and being on support system, you need the care of the Specialist care center and since you were a RN, you know for better.

The best way to keep you well and in accordance with the condition you are in. Enterocutaneous fistulas heal very well if there is no distal obstruction.Hence it is necessary to undergo contrast studies of the intestines to see if there is any obstruction and to get operated to get a possible cure. It seems that you need proper investigations and get the proper underlying cause to be treated and it is possible that most of the things will be reversed. It is also important to take supplements as the colon is not present now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
