Suggest Treatment For Fimbrial Adhesions Causing Delay In Conception

Hi, my name is Stephanie, I have been trying for almost 2years to conceive but not yet successful.I went for a test which showed fimbrial adhesion. My menstrual cycle is usually 30, but the flow for last month came after 38 days. My question is:1. Is their a possible cure for fimbrial adhesion, how do I become pregnant?2. What could be the cause for the long delay in menstrual flow

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Adhesions are areas of fibrous tissue that form as a result of the healing process following infection/inflammation. Adhesions can block or distort the fallopian tubes.
The ends of the fallopian tubes have fine fingers or 'fimbriae' which can capture the egg. Adhesions at fimbrial end may affect the chances for a woman to get pregnant, as it becomes more difficult for the egg to enter the fallopian tube at the time of ovulation.
Thus, presence of adhesions can lead to infertility or also increase the chance of an ectopic pregnancy.
Surgery is the only effective treatment for pelvic adhesions. Removal of adhesions can be accomplished using laparoscopic microsurgical techniques. Fertility is regained based on the success as a result of the procedure done.
It the problems persists and adhesions persists, it would be advisable to go for assisted reproductive technique like Invitro fertilization (IVF).
Kindly consult Infertility specialist in this regard for proper advise and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
